BUILD-A-BUILDING STARTS NOW
Build-A-Building is an entirely New Concept in Wall and Roof Components that will allow you to build an unlimited number of Trackside and Industrial Structures in virtually any size you desire. You will able to buy the individual wall and roof components for your own design as well as any of a series of BUILD-A-BUILDING concept kits. These items will be in addition to our already popular Scratch Building Supplies described at the bottom of the Page. Build-A-Building is a more advanced concept requiring preplanning for base(not included), wall, and roof integration, as well as precise cuts and assembly. See additional information under Design Considerations below. BUILD-A-BUILDING concept kits are our interpretation of kits that can be designed using the BUILD-A-BUILDING component concept but at a substancial discount over buying the individual components.

BUILD-A-BUILDING COMPONENTS
Select quantity and style of wall sections first, then select quantity and style of roof sections(if desired), and then select the quantity and style of joiners and supports necessary to assemble your structure. Build-a-Building concept kits do NOT have specific instructions but rather come with general assembly notes for the experienced kit builder. CMS5000 - Fremont Pass Engine House - 20" wide by 30" deep - $79.95- Contains 4 Engine House Door Sections, 6 Power House Window Sections, 8 Roof Sections, 24 brass hinges(may not be of US origin) with machine screws & nuts(hinges shown in picture are 1"x1" - hinges supplied with kit are1/2" x 5/8"), and a select number of the components shown with the wall and roof sections that are required to complete the Engine House as shown. CMS5002 - Colorado Central 2 Stall Roundhouse Kit(Starter)- 20" wide at the front, 30" wide at the rear by 40" deep - $99.95- Contains 2 Engine House Door Sections, 8 Power House Window Sections, 3 Blank Wall Section, 12 Roundhouse Roof Sections, 12 brass hinges(may not be of US origin) with machine screws & nuts(hinges shown in picture are 1"x1" - hinges supplied with kit are1/2" x 5/8"), and a select number of the components shown with the wall and roof sections that are required to complete the Roundhouse. Kit is expandable in 2 stall increments using the Expander Kit CMS5003 below. Radius to the front is 80".
CMS5003 - Colorado Central 2 Stall Roundhouse Kit(Expander)- 20" wide at the front, 30" wide at the rear by 40" deep -$79.95 - Contains all the same pieces as the Starter kit except the Power House Window Sections are replaced with 8 Expander walls for flush joining and more interior clearance.

Design Considerations - Wall sections used for side walls are 10" deep and roof sections with the long side to the front are 8" deep. This is to avoid a structural weakness with the roof seam and the side seam being along the same axis. Design Consideration must be given to the need for more roof sections being required for a given depth than wall sections. For example, the Fremont Engine House has two side wall sections along the front for width of approximately 20" and three side wall sections along the side for a depth from the front of approximantely 30". Two roof sections will span the 20" front but will only be 8" deep along the side. 4 - 8" deep roof sections will be required for the 30" depth of the side with the last two section being trimmed to a 6" depth(4 x 8" = 32" - 2" cut = 30"). Please make a scale drawing of your design so that the proper number of roof and walls sections required can be determined and the need for any precision cuts of either roof or walls sections can be anticipated. Designs wider than 20" will require our expander wall(available August 27, 2007). Designs may be as deep as desired. Be sure to plan to either recess any track below the bottom of the Engine House door or plan on cutting off the door bottom to accomodate the rail height. The structural integrity of any design(either yours or ours) is dependent on the base upon with the structure is built. Please plan a solid, non flexible base as part of your design as well as secure attach points from the structure to the base. Any bases shown with individual components or the BUILD-A-BUILDING KITS are not included. Additional inside bracing will probably be required for outside use. A good outdoor enamel in several coats should be applied to any exposed part of the structure. Additional considerations may be needed to suit individual tastes and requirements
